Tanmoy Chakrabarty is the Founder & Director of Chakrabarty Consulting Services Pvt. Ltd. (CCSPL), New Delhi, and a senior corporate leader with over four decades of experience at the intersection of government, technology, public-sector transformation and strategic business engagement.
His career has spanned leading organisations including Eureka Forbes Ltd., Bradma of India Ltd., Siemens Nixdorf Information Systems Ltd., Electronic Data Systems (EDS), Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), and Tata Sons Private Ltd. During his 14-year tenure at TCS, he served as Vice President & Global Head – Government Industry Solutions Unit (ISU), building and leading the company’s government business across India and international markets. Under his leadership, the Government ISU managed more than 305 active government clients, over 12,500 associates and operations across seven countries.
Tanmoy has been associated with some of India’s most significant technology-led government transformation programmes. At TCS, he led the Government ISU responsible for landmark initiatives including MCA21, the pioneering e-governance programme of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, and Passport Seva, the Ministry of External Affairs’ flagship transformation of passport services. His broader public-sector experience encompasses Income Tax and e-Filing, Customs & Excise, Overseas Indian Affairs, MADAD, eMigrate and India Post’s technology modernisation, as well as initiatives involving India’s Defence and Homeland Security Forces. His experience across State and Local Governments further spans financial management, urban development, rural employment, land records, taxation and VAT automation.
His international experience is equally diverse. In East Africa, Tanmoy contributed to digital Tax and VAT transformation programmes across Kenya, Uganda, Zambia and Rwanda, supporting the modernisation of government revenue and tax-administration systems. In the United States, his experience included Unemployment Tax and Unemployment Insurance modernisation programmes across multiple states, while in the United Kingdom, he contributed to technology-led transformation initiatives associated with the UK Home Office. These engagements have given him a distinctive perspective on delivering complex public-sector transformation across diverse administrative environments.
Following his tenure at TCS, Tanmoy joined Tata Sons Private Ltd. in 2018 as Group Government Affairs Officer, where he strengthened engagement with Central, State and Local Governments and helped advance a coordinated “One Tata” approach to the Government Sector.
After completing his tenure at Tata Sons in October 2022, he established CCSPL on November 1, 2022. Through CCSPL, he advises Indian and international enterprises, technology innovators and specialised service providers seeking to engage with government and contribute to India’s transformation. His focus is on enabling innovative and emerging technologies that address public-sector challenges, strengthen citizen-service delivery, and advance the ease of doing business and ease of living.
Tanmoy holds a Bachelor of Commerce from St. Xavier’s College, Calcutta, an MBA from the Institute of Modern Management (IMM), Calcutta, and has completed an Executive Development Programme at Babson College, Massachusetts, USA. He has also contributed to industry and public-policy institutions including FICCI, CII, ASSOCHAM, PHDCCI and PAFI.
